RICS Caribbean and RICS Barbados present:

The use of Alternative Dispute Resolution in Construction Disputes

Christ Church, Barbados

RICS is pleased to invite you to the first of a new series of Continued Professional Development (CPD) events in the Caribbean region. Please join the RICS Barbados Chapter for this interesting presentation about ADR - Alternative Dispute Resolution. Members, colleagues and guests are all encouraged to attend. This seminar will be of particular interest to clients, contractors, sub-contractors, architects, surveyors, engineers, project managers and lawyers.

As the recession continues to put pressure on the need for greater efficiency and cost/benefit effectiveness in the construction industry, Stuart Kennedy LLB(Hons) FRICS FCIArb will discuss how alternative dispute resolution is being used to promote new ways of thinking about building delivery.

As a practising Barrister and Solicitor in St Vincent and the Grenadines and a Barrister in England and Wales, Stuart specialises in building and construction disputes and professional negligence cases involving architects, surveyors and engineers. Stuart is also a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and Chartered Arbitrator and acts as an arbitrator, adjudicator and mediator in a variety of construction related disputes. He advises parties and acts as an advocate in litigation, arbitration, adjudications and mediations.

This presentation will focus on how disputes can be resolved without recourse to the Courts to the benefit both owners and the entire project team. Stuart will outline and discuss the various different forms of ADR  including arbitration, mediation, adjudication, conciliation and early neutral evaluation. The talk will highlight the differences between the various forms of ADR and suggest when they should be used.

This event will contribute toward your RICS lifelong learning requirements.
